The layout mode Arrange menu provides a number of different object "even-spacing" options. The Even spacing item in this menu is a cascade menu item which when selected, presents a vertical list of graphical representations of the even-spacing options. From top to bottom, these are even-space vertically and even-space horizontally.
The even-spacing options depend on settings in the Drawing Preferences dialog. These are the values in the fields Horizontal and Vertical within the Even-Spacing section. You can change these values as you require different even-spacing values to be in effect.
The even-spacing operations require a minimum of two selected objects. This is because one of the selected objects acts as the "anchor" object from which the other selected objects are appropriately spaced. For the even-spacing operations, the anchor object is not the one with gray-filled selection handles. Rather, it is either the top-most object for vertical spacing or the left-most object for horizontal spacing. When you have a set of selected objects, you can add objects to or remove objects from the selection set by holding down the Shift key and clicking on an unselected object or a selected object respectively. You cannot set the spacing yourself; Zim calculates the even-spacing for you.
The even-spacing options operate as shown in the following table:
Even-Spacing | Description |
![]() |
The even space vertically operation moves all objects in the selection set other than the top-most object, so that the vertical spacing among all objects is equal to the value specified in the Vertical field in the Drawing Preferences dialog. |
![]() |
The even space horizontally operation moves all objects in the selection set other than the left-most object, so that the horizontal spacing among all objects is equal to the value specified in the Horizontal field in the Drawing Preferences dialog. |
