Installing the Software

During the initial installation of ZIM for Windows or UNIX, you can choose to install the Zim server software. If you do not install it during the initial Zim software installation, you can use the same installation procedure to install the Zim Server software at a later time.  For more information on installing Zim software, see Installing Zim 8.

Basic installation guidelines apply when installing the Zim server software, or any other part of the Zim software.

• Keep a backup of the software.

• Use the system specific installation instructions during the installation to ensure that you are performing the installation correctly and in accordance with the licensing agreement.

• Customization of your system environment could be required. For more information on setting environment variables, see Installing Zim 8.

Once the Zim Server software is installed, use the configuration options to ensure the optimal performance of the server. For more information, see ZMSERVER.CFG, ZIMDB.ZIM, and CONFIG.SRV.
