The Open Dialog

The Open dialog is presented when the item Open is selected from the File menu. If the current layout has been modified, the painter first asks you if you want to save your current work. The Open dialog enables you to select the painting mode, and the name and Zim directory of an existing object with which you wish to continue working. The dialog consists of two sections: Mode and Identification.

Mode Section

This section enables you to select the mode in which you want the painter to operate. The choices are WINDOW DEFINE, MENU DEFINE, FORM DEFINE, and DISPLAY DEFINE. As each different option is selected, the Identification section presents a list of the objects of the specified type which exist in the Data Dictionary.

Identification Section

This section contains two list boxes. The list box Directories displays all directories that own objects of the type selected in the Mode section. All objects of the specified type and which are owned by the currently selected directory are displayed in the second list box, the label for which changes appropriately. To load an object (plus any associated objects) into the painter for editing, click on the OK push button or double click on the selected object in the object list box.
