The DUPLICATE option (located in the EDIT menu) provides an easy way to make copies of one or more objects. When an object is duplicated, the duplicate retains all the attributes of the original object. However, because two objects of the same type cannot have the same name, DUPLICATE either assigns new, unique names (if multiple objects are being duplicated) or displays a dialog box into which you can enter a name (if only one object is being duplicated).
For example, you could be painting a form in which you need several entry fields of the same size, data type, length, and so on. The easiest way to produce these fields is to first create one entry field, making sure it has all the attributes you require, and then to duplicate that field the desired number of times. Each duplicate of the field has the same attributes as the first entry field, but a different name.
To use DUPLICATE, begin by selecting one or more objects that you wish to duplicate. Note that, when you choose to DUPLICATE a container (e.g., a frame), the container and all its contents are duplicated.
Once you have selected the objects you want to duplicate, pull down the EDIT menu and choose DUPLICATE. The duplicates appear on the screen, selected and slightly offset from the original objects, which are no longer selected. Remember that new names are assigned to the new objects. You can edit each new object and give it a name that you choose.
