Adding Form Objects

Form objects can be added only when the painter has been invoked by DISPLAY DEFINE. The added forms are owned by the display. Once a form has been added, form field objects can be added to the form.

A form object is added by first clicking on the icon in the object gallery that represents the form object type. This is the left-most icon in the gallery. The cursor appears as an outline image of the form icon. Move the cursor to the approximate location within the window where you would like the form to be positioned and click the left mouse button. The form appears at that location. It initially has default dimensions and default attributes. The Add Form dialog is presented. This enables you to modify the form's default attributes. You can also modify any form attribute at a later time by displaying the Edit Form dialog.

There are also other ways to add forms. You can import a form whose definition exists in the Data Dictionary. You can paste forms which have been either cut or copied from another (or the same) display. You can duplicate forms. You can also use the generate facility to quickly design a form based on the definition of a database object type (EntitySet, Data Relationship, or Structured Document). If you are adding an already-existing form to your display, ensure that you do not change the name of the form in the display.
