Transforming Form Fields

The Transform option of the Edit menu enables you to transform a form field of one type into a different type. The process is essentially identical to deleting a form field of one type and adding another of a different type, with the additional feature that any attributes of the original form field which are also applicable to the transformed form field are preserved (e.g. data type, field length etc.). For example, if an image field is transformed into a push button, then the push button becomes an image push button preserving the image file attribute from the image form field.

Only form fields can be transformed. The paint window, the menu bar, and menu items cannot be transformed. In addition, if a field is the parent of other fields (e.g. a frame or option box), then the child fields must be deleted before the parent field can be transformed. Also, option buttons cannot be transformed because option box fields can contain only option buttons.

Multiple form fields can be transformed at the same time. The Transform dialog displays the type of each selected form field (both as text and as the corresponding object gallery icon), and enables each selected field to be transformed into a different form field type. If one of the selected form fields cannot be transformed an information dialog to that effect is displayed.
