About Adding Objects
In layout mode, a new object is added as follows:
- Click on the icon that represents the required object type (i.e. a form, form field, menu, or menu item) in the object gallery. The cursor takes on an outline image of the icon for the selected object.
- Move the cursor to the desired position within the object which is to be the parent of the new object. The parent object could be the paint window itself, or another object such as a form, menu, or frame.
- Click the left mouse button.
- The Add <Object Type> dialog is presented. This dialog enables you to change the automatically generated object name. Clicking on the OK push button completes the add operation. Clicking on the Cancel push button cancels the add operation.
Note: For form field and menu item objects, clicking on the Attributes... push button displays the Edit <Object Type> dialog through which all the default attributes of the object can be changed.
All newly added objects are created with default attributes, including their visual attributes such as dimensions, color, and border, as well as their non-visual attributes such as names, data type and length, and behavioral attributes. Most of the visual attributes can be changed in layout mode through the use of the Arrange and Style menu bar items. All other attributes of the object can be changed through the Attribute Edit dialog for the specific object type.
Objects can also be added by using the Import and Generate functions.
